CMS students, community members, and Lucyville descendants took a field trip to Oak Hill. The students learned about Shed Dungee who will be named on the Lucyville Marker where he was born enslaved. After the Civil War, he represented Cumberland County in the Virginia House of Delegates. The next stop was the former home site of R.T. Coleman (Shed Dungee's brother in-law). Students led this portion of the trip and read from the recently approved Lucyville Historical Roadside Marker text and various primary sources. The final stop was the Finney House built in the 1910's. Shed Dungee's daughter married Robert Finney. Both of the Finney's taught for CUCPS in the early 1900's. Thank you to Mr. Longenecker, students, and guests. #WeAreCuCPS
