Updated from Mr. Fleenor...CHS FFA is having a great state convention. They have competed in several career development events such as veterinary science, agriculture mechanics, livestock evaluation, environmental and natural resources as well as a talent show. Next is a career fair, day two of ENR, livestock evaluation, turf grass tour in Lane Stadium, milk quality contest, and a ceremony. So far the CHS Duke FFA Nation has received recognition as a State Superior Chapter and a National Superior Chapter. The Dukes earned a silver rating for public relations (first time winning this award). Madilyn Adkins placed in the top ten in the state for livestock evaluation and will continue to day two...way to go! GO DUKES! #WeAreCuCPS

Cumberland County, VA (June 24, 2024) Message from County of Cumberland-- In response to the ongoing drought conditions and the associated rise in brush fires, Cumberland County has instituted a ban on open air burning effective immediately and until further notice. The extreme heat has significantly increased the risk to our volunteer firefighters and the broader community. This measure is essential to safeguard public safety and reduce the strain on our emergency response resources. We urge all residents to comply with this ban and take necessary precautions to prevent fire hazards during this period of heightened risk. Additional questions should be directed to Fire and EMS Chief Andy Aigner at 804-586-1825.

That's this Saturday, June 22, at 1:00 pm, at the CHS football field and field house. Also, reminder-- on Monday, June 24, from 6:00 - 8:00, football summer conditioning will begin for any eighth through twelfth graders who are interested in playing varsity or junior varsity football for the 2024-25 season. Conditioning will be held every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, from 6:00-8:00. All players must have a current sports physical (dated after May 31, 2024) and a concussion form before being allowed to participate. Players will need cleats, running shoes, as well as any medications such as epi pens, asthma inhalers, etc. The football roster will lock in on August 16, so we encourage those interested in playing to come out as soon as possible in order to ensure a spot on the roster.
