January 2021 CMS School Counseling Newsletter
Spring Enrichment Activities
Each month this school year, we are excited to offer enrichment activities for students and families. Our January project is Reading and is open to all community members. Post a picture to social media with your favorite (school appropriate) book! Use #cucpsreads and #iamcucps so that we can all see your posts. You can also email pictures to me.
Self Care
It has been a very different start to the school year and it’s perfectly natural to be feeling stressed and overwhelmed. So especially in the midst of that craziness, it’s important to prioritize your own mental health. The Self Care tab of the school counselor website has tips for how you can do that. I also include ideas for self care each month in this newsletter. You can find previous newsletters on the CMS counseling webpage. Here are some of the ways I’ve been focusing on taking care of myself recently:
Baking cookies
Horseback riding
Watching movies
New haircut
Getting at least 8 hours of sleep
Playing board games
Career Development
Our goal is to prepare students to be college or career ready when they graduate. So we are continuing our focus on the 5 C’s: communication, collaboration, critical thinking, creativity, and citizenship.
Our 5th Grade Career Exploration Unit got to meet virtual guests from a variety of careers including agriculture, robotics, criminal justice, photography, and education. We also enjoyed watching episodes of One Day at Disney available through Disney Plus.
Social Emotional Learning
Our students have been studying empathy, respect, bullying prevention, gratitude, & citizenship. In January, we will be focusing on Healthy Relationships.
Please contact me to have your student participate in Mindfulness or Girls group.
