This morning, Cumberland County Public Schools partnered with the Virginia State Police for a planned K-9 training exercise at the high school. Between 8:30 and 9:00 a.m., two K-9 teams conducted a sweep of the gymnasium and adjacent hallway where seniors will gather prior to graduation this evening. To ensure students did not interact with the K-9 teams during the exercise, high school students were briefly placed in lockdown as a precaution. At no time was there any danger to students or staff. CuCPS appreciated the opportunity to support this training while also providing an additional layer of security for tonight’s graduation ceremony.
