Good morning CMS families. Cheerleading conditioning starts today June 20th and runs through Thursday, June 23rd. Conditioning is from 3pm to 6 pm each day and is for grades 6th through 8th. Also, summer reading books are here and will be distributed next week. Please come by the middle school office and pick up your child's copy anytime from 7 am to 4 pm next week. Good evening families of CMS! Friendly reminder we will have our end of year award ceremonies tomorrow, May 19th. 5th grade ceremony will be at 8:15am, 6th grade at 9:30am, 7th grade at 12:00 noon, and 8th grade ceremony at 1:15pm. All award ceremonies will be held in the Cumberland High School Gymnasium. Parents and family members are invited to attend the ceremonies. All visitors must check into the middle school office. Hello! Please visit our website for information on an opportunity for our current 8th graders to attend the 22nd Annual Minority Law and Research Institute this summer. This wonderful opportunity is for minority students who are interested in the field of law to participate in conjunction with the Southern University Law School in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. It is for rising 9th graders through 12th graders (including soon to be graduates). This year the institute will be a one week virtual program on June 13-17, 2022. Students must be present in each of the virtual sessions to be a part of the law program and to receive the $300.00 monetary stipend that will be mailed at the end of the Institute.

At Saturday's (January 29, 2022) Longwood Men's Basketball game, @ 3pm in Willett Hall, Cumberland County will be recognized and a portion of ticket sales will go to Cumberland County Public Schools. Good evening CMS! This week is Duke Winter Spirit Week! Tomorrow is “Merry Monday” - wear your holiday headgear and socks, Tuesday is “Tinsel Tuesday” - wear your red and green bling, Wednesday is “Winter Wonderland Wednesday" - wear winter hats and scarfs, then comes “Tacky Thursday” - wear your tacky sweater and accessories, all ending with “Festive Flannel Friday” - wear your favorite type of flannel. 8th Grade Civics and Science SOLs are on Tuesday, December 14th. This week is our last week before winter break. Friday, December 17th is a noon dismissal day. The second semester will start back up on Tuesday, January 4th. Good evening CMS! This week is NJHS Go Pink Spirit Week! That’s right, join the NJHS on the week of October 25th - 29th as we wrap up our go pink campaign in spirit week style. Wear your comfy wear on Monday, dawn your brightest neons on Tuesday, Mix it up for Wacky Wednesday, and Animal prints for the win on Thursday. Lastly, let’s add a splash of pink with our costumes on Friday. Pink ribbon stickers will be available for those in need of a splash of pink for the costume attire. All outfits must meet the school dress code. Longwood University Nursing will be offering FREE sports physicals on November 5, 2021 at 3:30 p.m. at CHS/CMS for 6th-12th grade students that will be participating in a winter or spring sport for the 2021-2022 school year. The VHSL physical form will need to be completed and turned in by November 4th. The form can be found at VHSL.org or picked up from the main office. Good evening CMS! There will be no school tomorrow, Monday, October 11th, for students. This will be a professional work day for staff. Backpacks of Love has started distribution. If you are interested in participating, please pick up a form in the main office. Signed forms should be returned to Ms. Ellinghausen. During the month of October, students have the opportunity to participate in an anti-bullying poster contest. Completed posters are due to Ms. Ellinghausen by Friday, October 15th. Now through October 21st, the National Junior Honor Society will be sponsoring a grade level Penny War to raise money for Breast Cancer. The grade level that raises the most money will have the privilege of dyeing Mr. Hoyt’s, Mr. Mawyer’s, and Mr. Camden’s hair pink. The CMS Volleyball team has the following games this week: Monday the 11th away at Park View, Tuesday the 12th away at Powhatan, and Thursday the 14th home vs. Powhatan. All games start at 4:30 PM.
