Attention Week B and ALL Virtual Families: Mini Distribution Day is coming soon. Mark your calendars for Thursday, October 15, 2020 from 3:30-5:30 pm. Drive up to the front of CCES using the Parent Drop-off line. We will be waiting for you.#ccesdukes #iamcucps

We look forward to having most of our students attending face-to-face instruction beginning Monday, October 19th. CUCPS is using the Pulsing Model which means that some students will attend school Week A and some will attend Week B. The northern end of Cumberland, route 60, and the Bear Creek Side are Week A, and the Southern end of the county toward Farmville is Week B. If you are unsure, ask your child's teacher. Know that there could still be a few changes as Transportation irons out all of the routes. Breakfast and Lunch will be provided at no cost to our families. We will dismiss school at 1:30 pm so teachers can check in with remote learners, prepare videos for remote learning, and more. Families who selected 100% remote should plan to exchange binders at CCES every two weeks. We will provide specific instructions for those families. Our final Distribution Day will be a little different. Details are coming soon. Parent Pick-up will be Drive-through style. We are fine-tuning those details and will share those too.
Thank you for your help, patience, and understanding as we prepare for instruction in a way that we have never before planned. We are Growing World Changers at CCES and couldn't do it without our families.

The coronavirus pandemic has increased isolation and confusion for young children and their families due to the need for physical distancing and at-home learning. Finding engaging ways to support children’s early development is more important and more challenging than ever.
VPM is proud to offer Circle Time at Home, a program that brings a familiar school routine into the home. Host and educator Ms. Gaby leads engaging and interactive family-centered learning, focused on social emotional, language, cognitive, and physical health areas of development. Aligned with Virginia’s Pre-K and Kindergarten learning standards, this new half-hour program from VPM premieres tomorrow, September 14, and airs Monday-Friday at 10:30 am on VPM PLUS. View a short clip by clicking the image above and read more HERE. Please feel free to pass this on to family, friends, and neighbors who have young children in their lives!

First, we'd like to share that Ms. Kathryn Garrett has accepted the huge responsibility to oversee Food Services while our division conducts the very difficult task of replacing Mr. Bill Brandt. Mr. Brandt will be missed by our CUCPS Family.
This is a meal update from Ms. Garrett regarding changes to our feeding program.
"We provide meals for students at CuCPS, whether we are learning in person or remotely. What changed last week is that we have been given the opportunity to feed even more children in Cumberland county, not just those enrolled in CUCPS.
We received word from the VDOE last week that we are able to continue our Summer Feeding Program at least through December 2020. In the Summer Feeding Program we are able to feed any child in Cumberland county, 18 years old or younger. This means that any child in Cumberland county may receive the meals; they do not have to be enrolled in CuCPS.
When we return to the National School Lunch Program, we are permitted to feed school-aged children enrolled in CuCPS."
Please spread the word so families are aware of this opportunity. No child in Cumberland county should go without meals. This is wonderful for our families.

Free Vision Screenings for CCES Students on Distribution Day, Tuesday, 9/8/2020. VDOE requires all K & Grade 3 students to have their vision screened, so we have partnered with CONEXUS to make this happen. You may remember that they donated free prescription glasses to our students last year too! When you come to Distribution Day, we will route students in grades K and 3 to get an almost drive-through screening - students will enter the building in a Covid-safe manner for a quick screening. If you have an elementary school student in another grade and you would like to have the screening too, just drive up and they will provide this service as time permits. Did we mention that it's FREE? Aren't you glad that you're a Duke? :)
