Green Recycling Symbol

Dear CMS Families,

We are excited to tell you about a special Recycling Challenge at our school! This challenge is sponsored by Trex Company and the 6th grade class at Cumberland Middle School. It’s a great way for our students to help the environment by recycling plastic items. More information can be found HERE.

We are asking students to collect, and bring to school, plastic films, which include:

• Grocery bags

• Ziploc or sandwich bags

• Plastic shipping envelopes

• Bread bags

• Other soft plastic packaging

This does NOT include:

• Pre-washed salad mix bags

• Pet food bags

• Hot dog or meat wrap packaging

• Six-pack drink rings

• PPE- Gloves, masks, or protective wear

• Shiny, crinkly films like floral wrap

• Plastic bottles

The 6th grade students at Cumberland Middle School are trying to collect 1,000 pounds of plastic film! They need our help to reach this goal. Most people have a bag of bags stashed away somewhere! You or your child can bring these plastic items from home and drop them into the recycling bins located in the front offices of all three Cumberland Schools.

The plastic we collect will be recycled by Trex Company, which turns it into useful products like benches and decking materials. The challenge will run the entire school year, or until the goal of 1,000 pounds is reached.

We hope you will encourage your child to participate and help us reach this goal. Every bit of plastic we collect makes a difference for our planet!

Thank you for your support!
