Cumberland High School is proud to announce eleventh-grader Yarah Thomas as the Student of the
Month. Yarah’s journey as a "Duke" began in Pre-Kindergarten, and after a brief time away, she returned to the
district in the 5th grade. Today, she is a leader both in and out of the classroom, serving as a proud older
sibling to two current Cumberland Pre-K and Kindergarten students.
An active member of the school community, Yarah shines as a player on the Lady Dukes Softball Team
and a member of the Dukes Cheer Squad. She credits her success in school to the engaging environment at
CHS, noting that her teachers excel at "making learning fun—especially Mrs. Parker, Chef Lee, and Ms.
Woodson!"
Even as a junior, Yarah is looking ahead to her future. She is already preparing for her upcoming
Senior Project, which she notes "prepares students and is great to have on a resume." After graduation, Yarah
plans to join the U.S. Navy and ultimately utilize the skills she learned in Cumberland to achieve her dream of
becoming a lawyer.
Yarah truly deserves this recognition because of her unwavering focus and dedication. No matter what
challenges arise, she consistently shows up to class ready to learn, taking immense pride in her education and
pouring genuine care into every assignment. Her exceptional work ethic makes her an outstanding role model
for her peers. Yarah personifies what it takes to have “DUKE PRIDE” and we celebrate her as our Student of
the Month.
