On September 4, 2025, the Cumberland School Board recognized the following students and staff:
Cadet Christopher Bobb completed JROTC Cadet Leadership Challenge (JCLC) Camp Eagle! Camp Eagle is a tough leadership camp that pushes cadets physically, mentally, and emotionally. Cadet Bobb participated in activities such as team-building exercises, leadership scenarios, field training, and fitness challenges.
Peyton Turner was the only student from Cumberland High School who was accepted and completed the Longwood University Summer Scholars program. The program focuses on STEM-related fields. Peyton's project focused on the effects of jellyfish on human recovery.
Over the summer, Elena Salamo attended the Longwood SEED Innovation Hub, run by Longwood University and the Southside Regional Governor's School. This one-week program focused on STEM, entrepreneurship, and engineering, enhancing their creativity, critical thinking, and passion for business. She developed Pet Tracker, an app designed to locate lost pets using a hidden GPS in their collars. The app also offers care reminders for feeding, vet visits, and medication. Recently, Elena also won a U.S. chess tournament in her category and represented CHS at the JMU concert band.
FBLA National Leadership Conference – Anaheim, California
This summer, three of our Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) students, along with their adviser, Ms. Woodson, had the opportunity to attend the FBLA National Leadership Conference (NLC) in Anaheim, California. Bri-era Franklin-Harris, Shonna Robinson, and Naisha Scott represented our school and school division by competing in the Social Media Strategies competitive event against over 100 teams from across the country.
