Small aircraft will arrive in Farmville on August 3, 2024, delivering school supplies. What is known as the Central Virginia School Airlift is being organized by Longwood University student, Tess Petersen’ 25, using her experience as a pilot to gather school supplies.
“Our goal is to find out how much good we can do with Farmville’s runway,” Petersen said. “We hope to make people excited about helping the schools in their community.”
Pilots and aircraft from all over the mid-Atlantic are expected to take part in this year's airlift. Organizers with the airlift say aircraft will be on the ground at Farmville Regional Airport on August 3, and the airlift will be an opportunity for anyone in the public to meet pilots and learn about flying.
All School supplies will benefit students of Cumberland County, with backpacks, notebooks, glue, paper, and hand sanitizer, among the supplies being collected. Members of the public who would like to donate or participate are invited to meet at Farmville Regional Airport on August 3 between 10 am and 2 pm.
