Couros Speaker

Cumberland County Public Schools kicked off the 2023-2024 school year with the New Teacher Institute, held on July 26-27, 2023. The division welcomed new teachers with a new teacher breakfast, provided them with a tour of the county, and hosted a Mentor/Mentee Luncheon. 

All staff attended Convocation, held in the Cumberland High School/Middle School Cafetorium on August 1, 2023. The event began with a division breakfast and the introduction of the Alumni of the Year, Mr. James G. Johnson, Jr. The featured speaker was George Couros, a leader in the area of innovative teaching, learning, and leading. Staff members then prepared for the arrival of students on August 9, 2023.

Cumberland Elementary School Teachers:  FRONT ROW: Ashley Gibson (special education teacher), Lynne Lindsay (interventionist/enrichment teacher), and Whitney Dickstein (4th grade math teacher). BACK ROW: Mia Eldridge (2nd grade teacher), David Lawson (music teacher), and Stacey Cavedo (special education teacher).


Cumberland Middle School Teachers:  Robert Parker (English/language arts teacher) and Judith Chambliss (5th grade science teacher). Cumberland High School Teachers:  Major Stephen Kent (JROTC Senior Instructor), Colleen Wrenn (10th grade health and physical education teacher), Earl Lee (Culinary Arts teacher), Cannon Knapp (environmental science teacher), and Tyrone Mosby (athletic director/career development specialist). [Not pictured: Zachary Staton (10th grade health and physical education teacher)]
