School Board Member Mrs. Eurika Tyree

Mrs. Eurika Trent-Tyree, the Cumberland School Board member representing District 3, is now in her second term as a member of the Board, where she currently serves as Vice Chairman. As a member of the School Board, she has used her varied work and educational experiences to provide input into the development and implementation of policies and programs that support public education.

In addition to being a former graduate of Cumberland High School, she is a life-long learner. She has completed programs, degrees, and certifications in many different areas, including business, school database management, criminal justice, divinity, and mortuary science.

Currently, Mrs. Tyree is employed by Hopewell City Public Schools. She is a member of the Career and Technical Education Department where serves as the Lead Teacher, the Job Specialist, and the Webmaster for New HOPE Academy. Mrs. Tyree was named the Teacher of the Year for 2016-2017. In addition, Mrs. Tyree is an Associate Minister at Rocky Mount Baptist Church. As a long-time member of the community, Mrs. Tyree is actively engaged in area events and organizations.

Mrs. Tyree is the daughter of Sarah Trent and Garfield Barksdale, Jr. She is married to Conrad Tyree and they have three daughters, Octavia and O’Layna Tyree and Imani Ingalls. She noted that she also has one grand-dog named Beamer. Her hobbies include helping others, spending time with family, traveling, and relaxing. Her favorite quote is “If you don’t feed it, then it will not grow.” Her favorite book is the Bible.
