Back To School

Cumberland County Schools held virtual convocation exercises on Wednesday, August 5, 2020.  While the start of the school year was not traditional, faculty and staff met on ZOOM to be together for the start of the year.

Convocation exercises began with a welcome from Dr. Christine Ross (School Board Member, District 5), followed by an induction into Cumberland County Public School’s Alumni Hall of Fame recipient, Mrs. Beulah Marshall Wiley, a 1941 graduate of the Cumberland Training School.

Staff experienced a ZOOM breakout session to illustrate how technology can be used to meet various needs for instruction, while also providing opportunities for staff collaboration.

New faculty and staff members were introduced by principals and supervisors, and Superintendent Dr. Chip Jones made remarks for the upcoming school year.

Dr. Jones stated, “This is a year to be innovative, relevant, and resourceful. I’m proud of the work our staff has been doing, and will continue to do, for the upcoming school year. Our beginning of the school year looks different than we ever experienced, but our quality and commitment to education has not changed.”

Efforts are being made to ensure that students have what they need for remote learning.  Parents who need additional information about how the school year will look for their children should contact the school principals.

CuCPS has posted an update to the Frequently Asked Questions section of our web page.
