At the June 16, 2020, meeting of the Cumberland School Board, Mrs. Wendy Tillett was named Cumberland Elementary School Assistant Principal. Ms. Tillett, who is currently a special education lead teacher and instructional coach for Powhatan County Public Schools, was a former special education teacher and administrator for Cumberland County Public Schools. She has expertise in the co-teaching model, in using disaggregated student data, and in conflict resolution. Mrs. Tillett noted, “I believe in a humanistic approach to teaching and administration. People must know that they are cared for and valued in order to be motivated.”

Mrs. Tillett received her Bachelor of Science degree in social work from Longwood University, her teaching endorsement in special education from Old Dominion University, and her Master of Science degree in administration and supervision from Longwood University. She is licensed by the Virginia Department of Education in Special Education Pre-K-12 and Administration and Supervision K-12. Formerly, Mrs. Tillett was a corrections institute rehabilitation counselor for the Dillwyn Correctional Center and a member of the Cumberland School Board.

She will officially assume her new position on July 1, 2020.
