Each year the Virginia School Boards Association sponsors an art show and competition at the spring regional forums. The VSBA Southside Regional Forum was held on March 7, 2019, at Powhatan Middle School. Student art is displayed and judged at the forum. Winners receive ribbons and all participants receive certificates. The winning artwork is framed and rotated for display in offices of the Secretary of Education, the Department of Education, and the VSBA office for one year before being returned to the student. This year, two students had artwork displayed at the Regional Forum—Peyton Turner (Grade 4) and Carly Thompson (Grade 11).

Peyton Turner, a fourth grade student at Cumberland Elementary School, was recognized by the Cumberland School Board at the April meeting for having her artwork displayed at the Regional Forum. [Not pictured is Carly Thompson, an eleventh grader at Cumberland High School.]
