Welcome to Cumberland High School

Dear Guests:

Welcome to Cumberland High School and 2009!

As we gear up for another semester of academics and activities, keep in mind our school’s mission – “to educate and prepare every student to become confident and caring life-long learners who can make contributions, communicate, and function effectively in the 21st Century.”

We are approaching SOL’s for fall semester classes. Please encourage your children to rigorously prepare for the tests and get a good night’s rest and breakfast prior to exam dates.  The high school faculty will be providing extra-help time for students who need additional instruction in order to be successful. I encourage parents and students to take advantage of every opportunity provided. Information about extra-help sessions has been provided to your children. If you have questions about these sessions, please contact your children’s teachers directly at their email provided (email links are located on the faculty/staff web page) or by calling the school.

In addition to extra help, high school students have various enrichment opportunities through a 21st Century grant. More information about enrichment sessions will be provided to all students as we enter into the second semester. Staff and community members help to make our enrichment sessions possible. Take a moment to review the materials sent out when they become available.

Also, check out the services that our career coach offers for developing post-secondary plans.  The career coach is a community college employee who visits our school regularly to help students develop career goals and plans, develop life-long goals, connect marketable skills with jobs, and connect students to post-secondary programs and services, institutions of higher learning, and business/industry. For more information about career coach assistance, contact Mrs. Joanne Petty at jpetty@cucps.k12.va.us.

Our high school web site will be undergoing some changes over the next month. I encourage you to visit it often as we develop a comprehensive site for our school community.

As always, I invite you into our school to see the good things our students are doing.  If at any time I can be of assistance to you, please feel free to contact me.

Sincerely,
Jeffrey A. Dingeldein
Interim Principal
