On June 6, 2017, the Cumberland County School Board approved Mr. Michael Camden as the new principal of Cumberland Middle School, effective July 1, 2017. Mr. Camden, a former teacher at Cumberland Elementary School (CMS), is currently serving as the Assistant Principal for CMS. He came to the division from Hopewell City Public Schools, where he was the Supervisor of Alternative Programming and District Intervention. He has also served as an assistant principal and a principal for Mecklenburg County Public Schools. He was named Cumberland County Public Schools (CUCPS) Division Teacher of the Year in 2010. In addition, he has coached basketball and soccer. Mr. Camden has a Bachelor of Science degree in Early Childhood Education from Longwood University and a Master of Supervision and Leadership from Liberty University.
Dr. Amy Griffin, Superintendent of CUCPS, stated, “The division is pleased to have Mr. Camden on our staff as the new principal of Cumberland Middle School. He is eager to get started and I invite everyone to join me in welcoming him to his new position.”

Cumberland County Public Schools held a New Teacher Institute on July 28th and 29th for teachers new to the division. The Institute provided new teachers with the opportunity to find out about the school division, to set up their computer access, create their webpages, meet their mentors, and get an overview of division expectations. Further professional development was provided during the in-service week, including training on revising pacing guides, giving benchmark tests, developing alternate SOL assessments, and using data to drive instruction.
New staff members at Cumberland Elementary School include Mrs. Elizabeth Wiles (2nd grade), Mrs. Pamela Stepco (3rd grade math and science), Mrs. Tina Boyer (3rd grade reading and social studies), Mrs. Tamatha Gordon (reading specialist), and Ms. Suzanne Page (3rd grade reading, math, science, and social studies).
New staff members at Cumberland Middle School include Mr. Andrew Newton (8th grade English), Ms. Carol Gillispie (Algebra I), and Mr. William Gordon (Band).
